I guess the only correct answer is: depends where. In densely populated Europe any land not used for housing is used for farming, and any land not used for farming is used for recreation and nature reserves. Large scale RE installations are directly competing with each of these land usages. People are protesting against onshore wind farms in Norway, France and Germany, and against PV farms in UK already. And their arguments are much more solid than anti-nuclear ones...
