Vegetative reproduction, like growing potatoes from tubers or strawberries from runners (genetic clones), IS a different category than sexual reproduction via pollination.

I don't demonize growing potatoes from tubers, but its simply not the same thing as growing them from botanical seed for example. Both propagation methods have different characteristics, and they apply differently to different crops as well.
