I don't really care about the RFC being outdated because it's been working in all operating systems 10 years ago, it's working today. It's just there and it works.

Now if your problem is not sticking to a 80's version of a protocol you should probably start freaking out about FACK, SACT, DACK, ECN and dozens of other extensions that have been added to TCP since its conception.
