Just started watching crime series. Started with no dialogues at all but then first dialogue was spoken - in English dubbing - saying "911 what is your emergency". At the same time subtitles show "112" which is the correct version as it's a Finnish film and in EU it's all 112.

Comes out the dubbing is not only translated but also adapted for US, so watching films with dubbing is just like flying to Tehran and then dining exclusively at McDonald's...

@kravietz good translations often are aware of context too, so literal takes a back seat to mood or cultural localisation:)

Yeah, one of the best and funniest dubbing I've seen was for various children movies like "The Penguins of Madagascar" - they *were* localized in really good way :) On the other hand I can't imagine watching series like "Fauda" in any other language than original (Arabic and Hebrew) because the whole climate of the movie would be lost. And I learn some words, too :)
