So Australia's Greens energy advisor is all enthusiastic about storage for country's renewable energy... but his estimate is off by just over 10344%

@kravietz You don't need to store as much energy as you would consume in total. In photovoltaics you would need to store enough to cover cloudy/rainy days and night energy demand. If you use thermal solar you would need less batteries as you would store heat.
He may be wrong, but maybe not (419/0.15) wrong.

This is already well quantified and modeled, and I wouldn't be such optimistic:

"Even in the cases in which 80% of electricity is supplied by intermittent renewables on the annual average, there are still times when wind and solar is providing very little power, and if blackouts are to be avoided, the gap-filling dispatchable electricity service must be sized nearly as large as the entire electricity system."
