I never really understood discord and all that for actual organising work.

Maybe it's because my mind is still rooted firmly in forums of the early 00s, but... aren't the messages poorly organised? Don't they get lost? Don't you lose context? It just seems like a nightmare in terms of reading and writing asynchronously.

@jospanner Nobody cares about context on these chats, it's about now and there

@kravietz Which just seems like a bad idea.

Say I'm searching for an error message or something, forums are generally searchable and provide context. wtf am I meant to do if someone's idea of tech support is discord?

Or say I want to organise a project. I wake up in the morning and check in on it, and it's just big-ass list of meandering conversation.

@jospanner Well, that's a broader discussion here - most of social media today (FB, Masto) aren't really fit for "proper discussion"... That's why Kialo was created but I don't find it very convenient either even though idea is good.

@kravietz hmm, this is true. I lament the loss of fora.

What I liked the idea of was something like Facebook's groups but with each one functionally a forum with different boards.
