To be very direct about this: we propose complete civil disobedience if these bills come to fruition.
This #uspol has global impact and no one should comply with these laws.

This is wild.

Militarized Federal Agents from a patchwork of outside agencies have begun policing Portland (in rented minivans vans) without the explicit approval of the mayor, the state, or local municipalities. This is what that looks like in practice:

Have you read the #privacy policy of all of the “free” tools that you use as part of your everyday online life?
As an example, take a moment to read the (very substantial) #Giphy privacy policy - an agreement that you may have never seen before actually using their service.
How can you agree to terms that you have never been presented with?

Do you know of the extent of your personal data received by a seemingly innocuous image sharing service?
Today, make an effort to talk to at least one new person to let them know why maintaining good #privacy practices is important for you.
Warmly invite them to alternatives to ad and algorithm heavy websites.
Be kind. Be gracious to their feedback. Their reluctance may run deep after years of corporate and algorithmic manipulation.
These small steps to create a community help us all be more private and informationally secure.
E se há 20 anos alguém nos dissesse que teríamos de usar um dispositivo de rastreio a tempo inteiro a controlar as nossas atividades, inclusive as atividades biométricas, aceitaríamos? Não iriamos considerar muito estranho esse futuro? #privacylx #privacidade

@Korsier I think living in the modern world shouldn't require a trade-off of privacy etc. in order to share information in ways you can control (to the extent possible). I think one of the biggest problems today is people's conditioned belief that you simply have to relinquish control and rights in order to get the best out of technology.
...additional things that we should hide via #encryption, and question why a government or business needs access to:
- Religious views and discussions.
- Political affiliations.
- Sensitive conversations and photographs about sexuality & sexual identity.
- Doctor appointments.
- School information.
- Travel information.
- Brand preferences.
- Workplace discussions.
- Family & friend interactions.

"Do you have something to hide?" is a manipulative rebuke to those that use #encryption.
It would help us all turn this conversation around. Because, the answer is: YES, we do have something to hide.
Things that we should hide, and must question why a government or business NEEDS access to:
- Medical history.
- Sensitive conversations with employers, children, spouses.
- Billing and banking information.
- Purchase information.
- Web search history.

How do we make ironic articles about the loss of privacy on websites that use spy trackers a thing of the past?
The duality of tech journals / online magazines / bloggers that advocate for #privacy yet are using #google #analytics, pervasive ad tracking (offline and online), etc. on their websites is an issue that may demand our attention.
What might help?
+ A code of conduct?
+ More vocal online protest?
+ Sharable “I won’t read your post because...” graphics?
Any ideas are welcome...

This is what's going to happen if you all don't act now.
Last month, members of CCC testified in German parliament about the importance of anonymity tools in technopolitics: "Encryption & anonymization services such as Tor are fundamental for secure communication & protection of information from unauthorized access. For people affected by repression or surveillance, it's essential that encryption methods and anonymization services are neither weakened nor provided with backdoors."

“For now” - This #news headline from CNN may help you realize the importance of using #privacy-centric and #encrypted software & services.
Using systems that do not track you in the first place ensures that your meta information is unavailable to give to authorities.
Using systems that encrypt your data properly make it harder for state actors to target you.

Neste admirável mundo novo somos expostos aos mais variados estímulos e tentações, explorando a tecnologia que nos explora.
