https://blog.torproject.org/v2-deprecation-timeline
v3 onion addresses are recognizable by their 56 character identifier. They provide better security and anonymity protections than the previous version.
If you're running a SecureDrop instance and are still on v2, please see our docs for switching to v3, or enabling v3 alongside v2.

Hi folks! 9 years ago (to the day), the late Aaron Swartz made the first commit to SecureDrop, which was then called DeadDrop. Today the project is used by >70 media orgs around the world.
It's an open source whistleblower submission platform that uses the Tor network to protect source anonymity. We're also working on a next-generation integrated workstation for journalists based on Qubes OS:

If the "EARN It" anti-encryption bill wasn't bad enough, the newly introduced “Lawful Access to Encrypted Data Act of 2020” is the the encryption backdoor mandate we've been dreading: https://u.fsf.org/33z
The contact-tracing apps springing up all over the world have the same potential to violate user freedom and privacy that all proprietary programs do. Plus, they can open the path for authoritarian governments to further violate human rights: https://u.fsf.org/33-
