@winzstd I can't get over how naive the Mastodon concept is. Federation is the wild wild west.

Just a reminder folks, if you want to discuss privacy more long-form without signing up for privacy hostile sites like Reddit, come check out our forums! forum.privacytools.io/

We have a very active community and a lot of interesting discussions you'll be interested in πŸ˜„

@kaniini ActivityPub makes things more awkward but I don't think it's actually affecting privacy in any meaningful way

any content that's public would be just as scrapable regardless of what protocol is used to get it to that point

regardless of how simple or straightforward the protocol is, someone will find a way to fuck it up

@kaniini All the FUD about non-mastodon fedi software is too fresh in my mind. A unified community people know is insecure and treat as such is better than fragmentation and trying to pick winners, when I've seen endless grousing about having to use ~another chat service when I already have discord~, or the other (imo unjustifiable but impossible to ignore) variants on that

hey you
yes you
your posts are public when you mark them as such. meaning, google can see them too.

turns out public means public.
the more you know.

boost this to get it to people that don't know for some reason.

Hey everyone! I think I fixed an issue affecting notifications on mobile clients, sorry it took so long..... If they still don't work for you, please sign out and sign back in, and if they still don't after that let me know.

This may(?) have also broken web notifications for you. If you're not getting notifications in your browser anymore please refresh or log out and log back in and that should fix everything πŸ˜„

I hope you all enjoy it, and be sure to give feedback if you have any :)

If any instance admins know how to get "federation with hidden services" up and working uh... don't hesitate to tell me how to do that myself πŸ˜…

Intelligent people know that privacy is not dead. WE ARE NOT ALONE! πŸ—£οΈ

Alright, moved media assets for Mastodon to Wasabi (S3 storage) since we were running a bit low on space on our servers πŸ˜…

Let me know if you run into any issues now, but images etc should be loading from assets.privacytools.io instead from now on.

fun fact: public info is public and unless you start doing whitelisted pubkey auth it won't be possible to hide public info from people who don't like

cc: way too many people

People who can't distinguish between etymology and entomology bug me in ways I cannot put into words.
