Instance side-eye

@greyor @emsenn @bgcarlisle definitely no idea what anyone here is talking about 🤷‍♂️ (we handle all reports we receive very quickly).

If instance admins ban other instances instead of using Mastodon’s built-in report features or blocking individual users there’s nothing I can do about that, unfortunately.

@MasTorDon I hope removing HTTPS is first thing on the to-do list, I can't give you a follow :P

@Yeet updated! I think that was the only one that hadn't been checked off. I'll also bring the i18n branch up-to-date with master in a couple minutes.

Things I liked about 80's/90's computing:
- Total control over my hardware
- Software that worked with me, not against me
- Superior aesthetics (yeah I said it :3 )
- Overall sense of promise and freedom

Things I like about computing today:
- Easy and open access to knowledge
- Insane amounts of storage
- The sheer computing POWERRRR

Now if only we could make these attributes come together instead of being period exclusive. :blobthinking:

@Joshua it's really only "great" if you're building credit (they seem to be approving most people even with low scores/income). Or just want to do all your banking on your iPhone, I guess. 🤷

@Joshua I just don't use Apple Pay that often, and if I have to use my physical card I wouldn't use this one because I get better rewards from NFCU and Discover.

It has some features I'd like to see other cards implement like on-device processing (so Apple can't see transaction data) and the lack of a printed card number, but as a product it's just an average card.

@Joshua uh, I would say it's "as advertised". It *looks* good, in true Apple fashion 😆

"M" is the letter tech people attach to things that are shittier than a different thing with the same name.

For example, NVIDIA graphics cards with "M" after their serial number are weaker cards meant for laptops.

Google Chrome has an "M" version for Windows.

Microsoft has Windows 10 "N" because they needed to go an additional letter into the alphabet to describe just how shitty it was.

Instance news! (Tor)

Hey! I'm pretty sure I got Tor federation working on social.privacytools.io! There aren't too many Tor instances to test but the ones I found appear to work.

Now we just need more Tor instances to gain in popularity. Maybe when @MasTorDon comes back online their timeline will be more fun 😄

Does anyone run or know of a Mastodon instance on the Tor network? Trying to test/troubleshoot federation with hidden services.

@croqaz very strange, for some reason that wasn't a problem for me in Safari. Anyways, fixed thanks!

It's official, blog.privacytools.io is live! I've imported a couple backdated posts for testing :)

In the (near) future we'll be posting more long-form articles/guides, news on privacy, etc.

We're also looking for guest bloggers! If you're interested definitely get in touch. We would also be open to "syndicating" (indieweb.org/POSSE) previously published articles if you're already a writer in the privacy space.

@CyberSocialist I don’t use debit cards. And for banking I’m already with Simple :)

I think Monzo might be UK-only too.

@Outernaut definitely not. You can find TOTP apps on any platform. KeePassXC supports storing TOTP secrets, for example.

@mkwadee it's somewhat silly to assume free and open source software don't have any security bugs, IMHO.

@WorldWideWebWizard the S10+ looks nice. I haven't found a good alternative to Apple HealthKit and HomeKit though. Plus I don't trust Samsung when it comes to security and update practices. I had an S7 (their flagship at the time, of course) that received updates MONTHS after it should have. I wonder (but doubt) if they're any better.
