@Mayana yep! Got the custom.css thing working on my machine too, in Chrome... I opened a GitHub issue https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/11016
Not sure why CW isn't working, the box appears to open for me (I'll try it on this toot). Maybe a Javascript blocker on your browser?
@Mayana @BurungHantu can you clear your browser cache maybe? Just upgraded the instance. I’ll definitely check it out though!
@jeff duly noted, thanks for your input! 😄
Hey everyone! Just a friendly reminder that this instance is privately-operated and does have a code of conduct. It's a simple one but it does exist! https://social.privacytools.io/about/more
I highly recommend people check it out and use common sense and there won't be an issue. We are highly responsive to user reports made as well, and if you don't think we're handling something quick enough you can always ping me. Definitely want to discourage instance blocks to avoid fediverse fragmentation 😄
@danarel tbh I’m sure that’s the end goal for Apple anyways. They’re betting a lot of resources on on-device AI while everyone else is focused on cloud-processing, so retaining access to data doesn’t make much sense.
I think the problem for Apple is E2EE isn’t fantastic for backup services like Photos where the devices are keys, in case they’re lost/destroyed. And Apple seems to be allergic to the notion of recovery keys unfortunately, probably for UX-related reasons 🤷♂️
@danarel the problem is people aren’t going to use anything that isn’t automatic, and isn’t on their phones. My guess would be it would be easier to get people to buy a VPS with Nextcloud pre-installed even, than get them to use something like those tools.
@BurungHantu I mean, they're pretty good shows. I just didn't think there was as much of a... point or message about society I guess, which seasons 1-3 were better at. I didn't think it was very deep or serious at all 🤷♂️
@danarel if you find some good alternatives let me know, I haven't found *any* decent photo managers. Nextcloud seems like the best option out there but yeah, requires a server.
Personally I sync to my NAS and computers with Resilio Sync, and I have my family members do the same.
In general though, all I can really say is iCloud seems fine for most people. If you're on Android without a custom ROM (like the "masses" will be) tbh you've already made pretty poor privacy decisions.

Apple's 'Find My' Feature Uses Some Clever Cryptography https://www.wired.com/story/apple-find-my-cryptography-bluetooth/
@Paul thanks! I’m glad you found it helpful, I just assumed nobody else would see it 😜
@mmin just came out yesterday, so depends on when you heard that 😜
@Mojeek fantastic, and welcome to Mastodon! We’ll definitely take a look at what you’re doing 😄

Exciting stuff coming up.
Currently making a webserver with free services for everyone.
For now, you can access:
- https://paste.prvcy.one : Similar to Pastebin, but fully encrypted.
- https://invidious.prvcy.one : A YouTube front-end, see all the videos without all the tracking.
- https://search.prvcy.one : Metasearch engine. Search online without your every move getting tracked.
We'll continue adding more services, and a nicer homepage that lists all of them for easy access.

to better explain my dislike of Purism. It's simple. It goes far beyond their ignorance when it comes to allowing hate speech on their social platform.
They also release half-cooked probducts that aren't ready for mass consumption. They raise funds for products that aren't realistic or that they don't even know how they will build yet.
They charge shipping and restocking on their own failed products when they don't work as sold.
@Skepticalme @judgedread users should block other users directly I mean, for sure. The issue is when instance admins block other instances (mostly arbitrarily) it fragments the fediverse. Instance blocks are generally helpful to 1) block spam, and 2) maybe to block NSFW content if your instance is targeted towards kids? It’s less helpful when it’s used to silence opinions you don’t like.
@Skepticalme @judgedread I think it’s meant more in the sense that some server admins are blocking other servers entirely because some of the users on the other servers don’t have the same views (political mostly) as the admins. It’s kind of a ridiculous thing because the entire idea behind federation allows anybody to connect to one another (i.e if someone is blocked they could trivially create a new server to get around it) so instance-wide server blocks seem generally harmful.
#PrivacyTools Administrator, #OpenNIC Operator, macOS and Linux user, maybe some other stuff too?
