@Skepticalme @jeff posts from other servers are going to show up on your federated timeline, that’s the best way to find other users. One thing your client (Amaroq) can do however is show the timelines from other servers without needing you to login, which the website can’t. So that’s a feature you could use if you want to see posts from specific individual other servers. Otherwise, the local timeline shows only posts from this server, and Home shows posts from everyone you follow.

@eleix I wonder if I could set it up so whenever I log in to SSH this toot comes up as a friendly reminder...

It will be a quick reboot I said, it will come right back up I said.

Oh how wrong me 30 minutes ago was 🤣

@winzstd I can't get over how naive the Mastodon concept is. Federation is the wild wild west.

@one uh before I decide you better give me an example of an insightful quote. I want to make sure I'll be thinking deep thoughts 🤔

Just a reminder folks, if you want to discuss privacy more long-form without signing up for privacy hostile sites like Reddit, come check out our forums! forum.privacytools.io/

We have a very active community and a lot of interesting discussions you'll be interested in 😄

re: fash instances

Hey-o! If you see any behavior on our instance that's unacceptable I encourage you to send a federated report, or shoot me a PM (, or block individual users!) 😄
@lanodan @brainblasted @gaja

@Mayana yeah, not sure why. Maybe I hit a limit on free articles or something. Not that I read The Economist too often.

@deceptivecornbread They shouldn't be reinventing the wheel: Tor already exists and would benefit greatly if they just used that. Not being open source is a no go. And if they're decenrealized why are they charging a subscription? 🤔

@Mayana we already know the cure, just don't vaccinate your kids. (Just kidding!!)

This sounds exciting! Although I wish the article wasn't behind a paywall. Maybe I'll have to visit a library to read it entirely sometime.

@one what do you have against Americans, you racist?

Jonah :ptshield: boosted

@one nano is the best editor you can take all your other editors and get outta here smh

@kaniini ActivityPub makes things more awkward but I don't think it's actually affecting privacy in any meaningful way

any content that's public would be just as scrapable regardless of what protocol is used to get it to that point

regardless of how simple or straightforward the protocol is, someone will find a way to fuck it up

@kaniini All the FUD about non-mastodon fedi software is too fresh in my mind. A unified community people know is insecure and treat as such is better than fragmentation and trying to pick winners, when I've seen endless grousing about having to use ~another chat service when I already have discord~, or the other (imo unjustifiable but impossible to ignore) variants on that
