Intelligent people know that privacy is not dead. WE ARE NOT ALONE! šŸ—£ļø

@one bro my @opennic.org email is fully authenticated, perfect spam scores, etc. It doesn't end up in the spam folder, no no, I get "To reduce the amount of spam sent to Gmail, 550-5.7.1 this message has been blocked." šŸ˜¬šŸ”«

Alright, moved media assets for Mastodon to Wasabi (S3 storage) since we were running a bit low on space on our servers šŸ˜…

Let me know if you run into any issues now, but images etc should be loading from assets.privacytools.io instead from now on.

fun fact: public info is public and unless you start doing whitelisted pubkey auth it won't be possible to hide public info from people who don't like

People who can't distinguish between etymology and entomology bug me in ways I cannot put into words.

@glitcher32 I don’t trust any hardware encryption. Look at the vulnerabilities in WD’s portable drives with hardware encryption for example. The only useful thing about it is (usually) cross-platform compatibility and maybe speed (but most CPUs have good encryption anyways nowadays). I just use FileVault because I’m on macOS only but if you’re on Linux or need cross-platform compatibility VeraCrypt works well.

@glitcher32 all hard drives die. What kind of capacities do you need? I’ve been using a Seagate Slim portable drive for years now with no issue but I and countless others have had issues with other Seagate devices in the past. Luck of the draw! If I had to choose a new drive today 1TB or less I’d probably go with a Samsung T5 just to switch to solid state. Far more reliable, and faster!

The fediverse will fork itself for every small feature required and eventually you'll have to choose between the Mastodon with custom emojos, the Mastodon with upvotes and downvotes, the Mastodon with trending topics, the Mastodon with iframes, the Mastodon with Google Play Services, the community fork of Mastodon after the original gets bought out by Facebook, the community fork of the community fork of Mastodon after they introduce a redesign, or the Pleroma

@JoshuaJosephson FYI there is a "Delete and re-draft" option so if you catch something quickly you can delete the post and the content will be added back in to the editor. But that does unlink any replies, boosts, or follows, so only super helpful if you notice a mistake right away.

ā€œJust install Linux on itā€ is the ā€œjust change the engine of your carā€ of tech.

Not everyone is a mechanic, not everyone wants to be a mechanic, and, if we want a world where freedom is the norm, we must stop expecting everyone to become a mechanic.

Note: this is not because these people are too dumb to be mechanics. It’s because they’re brain surgeons and space-shuttle pilots and they have three kids and they care for a loved one and they don’t have time to also be a mechanic.

If governments push social media companies to take down ā€œterrorist content,ā€ they will also force them to remove important documentation of everything from atrocities and war crimes to police brutality as well, say journalists and human rights activists. theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/

@Mayana Don't worry, it took me like 10 minutes to find it after seeing your post, and even then only after finding a GitHub issue about the exact same problem someone else had. It's pretty well hidden, probably because you almost never need to click that button otherwise haha!

@Mayana There is a way to see this list! In the left sidebar on the main page (web interface), right above the message composing box (to the right of your profile link) there's a 3-dot menu button. Click that and the bottom section of the dropdown contains links to "Blocked Users", "Muted Users", "Hidden Domains", and "Muted Words".

Time to update šŸ””

Tor Browser 8.0.9 fixes the issue which disabled NoScript and all other Firefox extensions signed by Mozilla.

If you used the workaround we mentioned, don't forget to set it back after installing this update. blog.torproject.org/new-releas
