@jonah because you have to speak to Keybase and get your server whitelisted. Itās one the worst things Iāve ever seen be added to an open source project. Decentralisation going with centralisation? Okay LIMOW
@one @BurungHantu hey wait a minute... that mark has an X in it! Are we being scammed?
Also that looks pretty neat, Iāll check that out sometime š
@BurungHantu and yet since our Mastodon server is on 2.7.4 we canāt use it yet.

Who to follow on #Mastodon? We are trying to give new users a better start and selected a couple of profiles for #privacy related topics: https://social.privacytools.io/about/more#follow
@victorhck @BurungHantu what benefits does XMPP provide that Matrix lacks out of curiosity?
@mrbean around that area haha
@one https://riot.privacytools.io/ if you want to use ours, otherwise the homeserver is chat.privacytools.io and registrations are open :)
@pkntl lucky for me I conveniently planned an out of state trip for this weekend. Maybe it will melt by the time I get back? š
@one not sure what we need, you'd have to talk to @BurungHantu about that. Have some project in mind? You're welcome to join us on Matrix/Riot if you want to chat sometime š

A recent experiment found that disturbing amounts of sensitive data, like social security & credit card numbers, could be extracted from used laptops & cellphones.

@one thanks! I think we'll be fine though. The main problem is this instance was setup before we got our own servers for the rest of our services (and before I joined) š
Now that that's all setup we should be good to go. But we paid a couple months in advance AFAIK so there's not too much rush on the migration.
@one yeah when I get better access I'll add some more from https://mutant.tech/demo/#gs and then add software logos, and go from there.
@one shouldn't. we'll do a full migration of course, I just need to get in touch with them about getting that data.
@one mm like the flags? I added a couple. I don't have any control over this server since we got it from masto.host so that makes mass imports difficult. When we move to our own servers in the next month or so I'll add a bunch more.
@one you know I donāt think there is any custom emoji on this one but I can add some. Mastodon lets you import them from other instances so itās something I could look in to easily. Any suggestions?
1 - on the desktop client if you click the emoji button on the posts there should be a list.
2 - I think its client dependent. In Toot! I canāt find any emoji picker, but in Mast if Iām composing a post thereās an āInstance Emojiā selector.
3 - not AFAIK but you should be able to see them.
@BurungHantu well itās sorta too late for that now donāt you think? Lmao
Personally I like Mastodonās interface more and it has more features. Custom emojis, link verification in bios, UI for moving accounts to other instances, and better admin tools just off the top of my head.
@one GitLab would be neat but Iām not sure how many people would use it, and we wouldnāt switch from GitHub to our own install without knowing users would move with us, so itās not like we would really be able to move first to spur adoption.
#PrivacyTools Administrator, #OpenNIC Operator, macOS and Linux user, maybe some other stuff too?
