Updating to Mastodon v2.9.0rc1...
aaaand done. First thing I noticed, the light theme looks significantly... worse? 🤔
@jonah I see you just have one column on your instance, is it an option in Mastodon?
@Paul sorry, didn't see this! Yes, this is a new feature in 2.9.0 (we're on the 2.9.0rc2 beta), so it will be coming soon to all instances. It's going to be the default view now, but you can switch back to tweetdeck-style multi-columns in your user preferences.
@jonah Great, I like this style. Glad it will come with the update
@jonah I updated to v2.9.2 and I still have the Tweetdeck-like layout, is it normal? In the themes settings, I can just choose between dark, high contrast and light, no single-column setting.
@Paul it’s definitely in your settings somewhere, labeled “single column layout” (not a theme). When I get on my laptop I’ll take a look.
@jonah I found! It is in the personal preferences and it's called "Advanced web interface". Actually I have to disable it. But because it isn't in the instance administration section, I'm not sure if it has effect for everybody
@Paul weird, could’ve sworn it was called something else.
That setting doesn’t affect everybody, only you. However the new default for new users is to have the advanced interface disabled, so the single column view is the default for anyone that signed up since the instance was upgraded to 2.9.x
@jonah OK, so as it will be as that by default, I believe it won't be controlled by another setting than the one I found but if you find the right setting you are thinking of, I'm interested
