Mastodon Admin, Image Upload Issue

So I've got a weird error that I can't really troubleshoot here. Whenever I try to upload an image I get a 500 error from the Mastodon API. It's weird as it's not affecting remote posts and so far my logs aren't being very helpful ether. I've checked permissions and they are set right so I'm not sure what else i could be missing here.

@eleix did you get this working? Is your server overloaded maybe?

Mastodon Admin, Image Upload Issue

@jonah no I hadn't, nope not even overloaded. Just 500 error on any upload. It's really weird

@eleix do you have enough disk space? are you running in Docker or no?

Mastodon Admin, Image Upload Issue

@jonah yep, disk space is fine and no it's running natively

Mastodon Admin, Image Upload Issue

@eleix very strange, are you checking the logs with `journalctl -xf -u mastodon-*` when it's happening? Not sure why that would be happening or what else to look into 🀷

Mastodon Admin, Image Upload Issue

@jonah I get nothing from the logs when the 500 error hits the client. I'm almost wondering if the Cloudflare Web Application Firewall is having some effect on it. But the images aren't hitting the 100 MB max file upload size so I'm really wondering what's up.

Mastodon Admin, Image Upload Issue

@jonah Alright, narrowed down something, permissions error on /var/lib/nginx/tmp/client_body/ but as far as I can see it has the proper ownership so I'm not sure.

Mastodon Admin, Image Upload Issue

@jonah It was because I didn't go far enough back on the owner permissions. Apparently mastodon has to own /var/lib/nginx and everything inside it. Good to know πŸ˜† I wonder what recently changed to break that though? Oh well, it's fixed now
