Any of you guys have any OS recommendations? I am going to switch OSes soon!
@glitcher32 Laptop, HP, decent speed
@jaiden4079 Maybe Tails or Qubes OS. (Which is Linux of course)
@glitcher32 Thanks for the suggestions!
@jaiden4079 No problem. Anytime.
@glitcher32 Are you experienced in firefox addons?
@jaiden4079 Yes.
uBlock Orgin and Privacy Settings (Highly recommend)
****I DON'T RECCOMEND THE VPN EXTENSIONS**** I only have one because I don't care as much.
@glitcher32 uBlock doesn't have cache clearing, but I did check up on privacy settings and configure my browser to use those settings 24/7. Thanks for the recommendations though!
@jaiden4079 No problem. Let me know if you need any more help with stuff. π
@glitcher32 Thanks! Do you know about a way to install additional addons with an addon? (I know, it's weird lol)
@glitcher32 lol i meant using JS to install another addon (maybe with xmlhttpreqs?)
@jaiden4079 I have no clue, but anythings possible.
@jaiden4079 Linux Mint is a great intro to Linux systems. Ubuntu is another option.
To the plugins list I would add Privacy Badger.
@supernova Thanks! Do you have any other addon recommendations?
@jaiden4079 Qubes is pretty advanced but a very good daily-driver OS choice if you're comfortable with getting into that sort of stuff.
As far as FF Addons go, I'd recommend uBlock Origin, Decentraleyes, and HTTPS Everywhere for sure. Also definitely a password manager if you don't already have one. Multi-Account Containers is also neat for keeping sites isolated, especially paired with the temporary containers addon that deletes all data in temp. tabs after they're closed.
@jonah would you recommend first party isolation as a replacement to multi-account containers?
@jaiden4079 yes, although in my experience FPI breaks some sites (with regard to SSO), and MAC is a lot more flexible in how you can set up groupings of sites yourself, there's just more control. FPI is largely invisible to the user, but in my opinion a good MAC setup will be at least as protective as FPI and more useful/convenient after setup.
Depends on what works for you, If you're using FPI and have no issues then MAC probably isn't necessary.
@jonah Alright! Also, if you're blocking JS, would you really need to use Decentraleyes? For some reason, while i use uMatrix & NoScript, i still have 0 CDN requests blocked.
@jaiden4079 not sure, I don't use uMatrix/NoScript. Presumably it'd be useful if you visited a site that required JS, so you're forced to disable NoScript but also don't necessarily want to download the JS libraries from Google/whoever's CDN.
@jaiden4079 Qubes os is good, but only if your already somewhat tech savvy and used to linux.
@jaiden4079 cinnamon mint is pretty nice os to if you like Linux π
@Wetrix Thanks!
@jaiden4079 I've always been happy with @opensuse
@jaiden4079 An OS for what device?
