@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat Totally. I've found the same to be true here with Mastadon. I just recently signed up, but I had looked at the platform a couple of times before only to think 'oh it's too small'. I think in a lot of ways now I see that as a plus, it means its more tight-knit and it feels more friendly in general. I'll have to try matrix and see if it's the same way!
@freetalklive This sort of rhetoric can be pretty dangerous without proper background information. Firstly, this is only one study in a sea of studies on the topic. Secondly, by whatever mechanism it may be, many studies have shown that lockdowns do work (even though they're unpopular). This article has a really good compilation of studies and articles that can help you get informed on all angles of this issue: https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/05/did-the-lockdowns-work/

@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat I totally agree with you, Discord is part of the problem. I'm curious how you're experience has been finding the same or similar communities on Matrix to the ones you were a part of with Discord? I think for many folks that's part of what's keeping them from making the switch.
@gritnot Oh perfect thank you. I can see a situation where it would be really expensive for them to have more space for everyone on the drive, even if it's a paid-only feature. I do think that they're angle of using it specifically for a smaller set of highly sensitive files makes good sense.
@gritnot That's exiting, I just started using their calendar and it's amazing! Do you know if if their cloud storage is tied to the data cap for the email plan (aka 5 GB for 'plus') or is it a separate pool/cap?
@gritnot if you're on Android, I use Tusky https://tusky.app/
@Wetrix @m_svo I wouldn't be so sure, in their data policy they outright say that they have the ability to see through your camera (which they cutely call 'our camera', see below screenshots from their data policy). And there is a lawsuit out against them right now about this https://www.cnet.com/news/lawsuit-accuses-instagram-of-peeping-with-iphone-camera/
@zhronox same here! Welcome!
I've been seeing a lot of outrage about Instagram's new TOS that went into effect recently in regards to privacy. Isn't a lot of this stuff nothing new? Their data policy (with all of the 'we can watch you through your camera' horrors) has been that way for a while... Anyone got more context for this? #Instagram
