There has been a fight for the right to be online (in part to push for Internet in rural America & for the poor). Superficially that's fair, but the problem is govs already operate with the assumption that people are online. So people are being forced to use & trust svcs from dubious gov-admin'd sites (e.g. ). How can I opt out? Now we need a right to be *offline*.

From a privacy standpoint, is it safer to get a Samsung or xiaomi phone and put something like lineage on it? It’s been years since I put a third party OS on my phone.

It's over 2 decades old, but I love playing the original Half-Life

Just received my laptop from @tuxedocomputers - looking forward to opening it!

BUT am I the only one who thought going into the ship was the worst idea? As in, maybe this is how they escaped in the first place??

Also did they get them all? Is there another ship?

It's often assumed that because Twitter has a larger userbase than the Fediverse, that accounts would automatically get more followers there.

However, many accounts (especially FOSS projects) have more followers here on the Fediverse.

Some examples (as of 26th July 2021):

@fdroidorg has 10.8k vs 7.33k on Twitter

@k9mail has 1.57k vs 680 on Twitter

@Minetest has 1.39k vs 785 on Twitter

If you know any Libre projects that are yet to join the Fedi, please ask them to give it a go!

@gritnot Sometimes people see things as binary. Resistance is futile. It takes a little explaining to convince them that it is not an all or nothing situation. The more privacy you can retain, the more power you have over your own destiny. This article kind of explains the situation. reallifemag.com/personal-panop

""whole-person Identity Graph provides personal/professional attributes, as well as online/offline identifiers... adding that can include names, addresses, social IDs, and MAIDs."

When I talk to friends and coworkers about online privacy, I feel like someone who should be wearing a tinfoil hat, a conspiracy theorist a-la far left or far rightists. Some times it makes me step back and think… am I blinded?

But no, I’m reminded that online privacy needs to be a basic human right.
