/e/ develops and sells de-googlised Android smartphones. You can follow at:

āž”ļø @e_mydata

Their website is at e.foundation and their phone shop is at esolutions.shop

The /e/ version of Android can also be self-installed onto your existing device.

One of the models with /e/ preinstalled is the @Fairphone, which is built as ethically as possible (fair wages & working conditions, recycled materials etc).

@lnx i have another account on a different instance and it loads fine

@lnx I guess it’s not just Toot! Then. Maybe it’s this instance?

@technoprenerd welp now it’s doing it again. All question marks, on Toot! at least.

@technoprenerd I was earlier this past week. Others were having similar issues. Mine worked itself out, and it was only this instance. You’ve tried web and other instances?

Tech giants need to be pushed to make it easy for users to leave, or to use other tools to interact with their data without leaving entirely. Tell your representatives to pass the ACCESS Act act.eff.org/action/tell-your-r

Idea for a book or movie:

Temps rise, no one does anything until trees start dying and crops fail.

Massive famine causes wipe out of 70% of humans, remaining humans wipe out remaining wild life trying to stay alive. Governments collapse.

With most emissions now at next to nil, earth can rebound.

Meat of book or show is here: can humans learn from this as they repopulate, or does humanity’s faults still doninate?

I feel like this exists though… is it called The 100? That one is nuclear..

@mario @social.privacytools.io I did, but now they work. I’m not sure if it’ll go back… I thought it was just me

@downey thanks, I was just looking around on there. Saved me some clicks.

Question: does using a custom android OS make you more uniquely identifiable online? I feel like it does.

As w/anything: more mainstream a tech, the more open to abuse.

As is potential w/code discovered in iOS 15 to integrate #facialrecognition -> gov digital ID.

In future could lead to a digital ID #biometric expectation/tracking.

The feature that made Waze more popular than Google maps until Google bought them was the crowdsourced identification of speed traps.
osm.org has the ability to log face traps (surveillance/facial recognition cameras). I have been mapping them as points of type: surveillance.
Some mobile mapping apps such as could show these features to help us know how to safely navigate around town. Edit your neighborhood maps.

@kravietz so it’s more lethal to kids. Great. So while we had a window to knock this thing out as a species and kids were mostly immune, we now have evolution finding its new host.

@kravietz I’m sure they’ll get right on that that

boosts appreciated, thanks.

@lnx Thank you for the insight! I haven't done this stuff in a while so thought I'd ask around. Maybe I'll check out copperOS or calyxos. Just have to find a phone to use now - seems like pixel phones are the way to go.
