@LeoBitman hello there. Saw the alias coin in your profile. I havenāt heard of it until today but good to see more privacy focused coins out there.
@redcoqui Iām willing to take the personal steps necessary to make me feel reasonably protected, but not have it consume my entire life to do so.
@redcoqui short answer: yes.
I donāt want to be a manipulated product for profit. I donāt want to be manipulated for political gain. I want a community of like minded but open people, not bots or businesses. We can be different and thatās okay.

I was born in USSR. There were no votes in USSR. I remember Perestroika. When I was just a teen, my parents were seriously discussing going off the grid to sit out the civil war if the 1991 KGB putsch against Gorbachev succeeded. Everybody was surprised when it failed. What followed was very confusing time, people had no idea how democracy is supposed to work, including the people who somehow made it work anyway, for a few years.

We know that the LAPD used Ring cameras to get footage during Black Lives Matter protests over the summer. Ring has over 2,000 partnerships with police. These ubiquitous surveillance partnerships are dangerous and chill First Amendment protected activity. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-56099167

@Wetrix wouldnāt be surprised if they drop a couple privacy coins

I guess this explains it. Too risky to keep on the books for IPO.
One of the questions that sparked my interest was if coinbase would drop ripple before going public. Not sure why they would?
@dissapointedsanta Iād say it is. Thereās still ideas you may not like but itās mostly respectful around here.
Once you follow a few people on here (this instance and others), it gets interesting.
@redcoqui i donāt use them (i prefer local encrypted apps / files) but i hear bitwarden allows secure sharing of passwords which is a draw for some for their spouse / S.O. Etc.

The LAPD requested and received Ring footage of last summerās #BlackLivesMatter protests from users. Civil liberties advocates have warned of harms to First Amendment protected activity as Ringās partnerships with police departments continue to expand.

@kravietz yah i didnāt see the rest of your thread. Makes sense.
I read the article, and although i havenāt looked up neoliberism i have an idea what it is. Is the central theme that neoliberalism caused part of this backlash against itself?
I think that thereās a lot of factors at play, as some of the commenters pointed out. However for me, i lean towards the weaponizing of information and social manipulation: the pulling of global strings.

AI can detect human emotions with wireless signals https://eandt.theiet.org/content/articles/2021/02/ai-can-detect-human-emotions-with-wireless-signals/ The total absence of considerations about whether this should be done highlights the urgent need for much stricter ethical oversight of AI research
@resist1984 interesting concept
@tilduke welcome!
