There is too much misinformation in the Linux community, to the point where even Linux veterans are even misinformed. That said, I've created a list of a few common misconceptions and their truths, all typed below. This also isn't like some of the Linux myth lists online that just include worthless garbage like "Linux can not play DVDs or any other media", "Linux can't play music", or my personal favorite "Linux can't open images" (all real examples from a list of "common Linux myths").

@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat ohh interesting. I’ll look for that
@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat i can find it with Swift key but not a default Apple keyboard.
@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat no worries and thanks. I was just digging into this and confirmed what you said above. Didn’t know there was an incognito keyboard TBH
@Wetrix did you ever find an alternative iOS keyboard?
@Wetrix this right here. It’s literally everywhere. I know us privacy minded folks have a fighting chance, but in the end they still collect. It’s a drop in the ocean. We need privacy to go mainstream but people just don’t care, and it’s much more difficult than necessary.
@serf oh yeah, it’s just reading the black and white that really lets it sink in. It’s also still a bit vague for my taste, despite the length of the document.
@tildeverse browsed the link in your profile - is this a group of Linux enthusiasts? Got a bunch of devices too
@Avneor also if you’re on iOS, Toot! lets you browse other instances without joining.
@Avneor I’m new too. You can always talk to folks in the other instances from this account. But as was mentioned, you may not get replies from folks here. I just scroll past.
@Obscurequokka interesting thoughts. In my time being a nerd I’ve seen a lot of what you call purists. I call some elitists. Tech sector seems to attract them for some reason, and I have my theories why. The internet is the best and worst thing to happen to humanity, and I think it’s now programming new generations - the “good” of humanity comes from the society in which it lives and holds its values. The internet may not be the best place to cultivate goodness as a sole source due humanity.
Looking at the Open source app Lockdown to block app ads in iOS, but you can’t have it running with a separate vpn. It apparently isn’t a vpn itself (like most app ad blockers) but uses the vpn settings so I can’t use ProtonVPN with it. They DO have their own VPN but not sure I need another one just to use this app.
@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat last time I did it, the hardest part was the annoyance of closest friends and family. “Oh right...” they would say. Also offline map navigation is feasible but cumbersome. You end up relying on other people for the smart features.
@Wetrix @ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat what do you run, ug chromium?
