Started looking into #Ethereum (crypto currency) and the #dApps (distributed apps) that are run on them. Here's a snippet:
"Web 3.0 is a lot of things, but at its core is a technology based on decentralization. By decentralizing information and services, large corporations and governments won't be able to control users of the Internet through monopolistic, authoritarian tactics."

(scroll about 2/3 down to get past the techie stuff if you like)
@Wetrix yep, in the Toot! iOS app you click the three dots on the top right and click servers.
@Wetrix lol. I poked around a few servers myself. I found that Toot! lets you surf through one without actually joining, which is neat.
@Wetrix yup, and using your personal phones for communication
@Obscurequokka I wonder this as well, and agree that the distributed nature should help.
Call me a āhipsterā but I like the new and niche part of it. When my local timeline becomes unbearable itās time for a new instance... or account deletion.
@Obscurequokka I try to make safe decisions when I click. I tend to steer away from short urls and links that have a whole bunch of meta data attached to the url. Sometimes Iāll research a site before I go there but thatās rare (impatience as you put it)
@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat thatās a good point, you have to log in
@Obscurequokka Iād be interested in the philosophy instance if you find it.
@Wetrix @Obscurequokka agreed. Iām finding keeping up with matrix is akin to one of the primary reasons I dropped off most forms of mainstream social media.
@Wetrix Oh just a person they keep referencing in there. Seems to be some sort of privacy guru. I haven't dug into them much at all, but I guess there's guides, etc.
@Wetrix I can agree, but thereās also some good discussion lodged in there. Mastodon feels a bit more refined IMO.
Also madaidan seems to be very import / controversial.
@Wetrix well thatās interesting
@Mayana oh interesting; Iāve only been on here a few days so good to know!
@Wetrix or just clouds in general?
