@arh Privacy is the right to decide what you keep to yourself and what you share with others. You have zero privacy on Google’s platforms because you don’t have the right to not share with Alphabet, Inc.

You have 5 days left to contribute to #TorBugSmash Fund! The Bug Smash Fund keeps Tor strong, safe, & bug-free so millions can stay private online.

We need your help to reach our goal--we're $15,000 away. Every donation made in August counts!

Hey, I'm Cass.
I've never been into social media much, but I'm a big fan of #floss and #decentralization, so I thought I'd give Mastodon a go.
I like to make things: mostly #electronics things, but sometimes #software or needlecraft too.
I'm studying #engineering. I use #linux. I read a lot of #scifi, and some #fantasy and horror as well. My music and film tastes are pretty broad. I used to be on a #robotics team.
Anyway, that's my #introduction. This'll be fun. Cheers! 🍻

Short video review of Lemmy that I just made. First of (hopefully) a series about FLOSS and federated social networks.

What's in a phone number?

Quite a lot, actually. Privacy tech and phone numbers don't mix. Thats why when you #GetSession, we don't ask for one.

Helio is an open-source, cross-platform, distraction-free music composition suite that runs on computers and on mobile devices (!).
if you have a phone or a tablet, but no computer - you can still make music with libre software!

Something tells me once can be incredibly productive with this...

We still have a chance to create a private future.

But that chance won't last forever.

Your choices matter.

"There is no such thing as a backdoor for only the good guys. Even if there was, the Pegasus scandal is a reminder that not all governments are 'good' and that 'good governments' can act badly."

"No one earns a billion dollars.”

"Every dollar that the boss did not work for, one of us worked for a dollar and didn't get it."

My rule of the thumb is that #openness and #transparency is good to check on power. While #privacy is good for normal folks to be able to organize against abuses of power.

A disadvantage of the term would be that "digitization" de-emphasizes increasing communication between science and the outside world and the importance of #diversity. Those parts of open science are also important for science (at least as long as insecure people down vote posts on diversity on this feed). 4/5

Watch as this Polish parachutist had to make an emergency landing on a soccer field — in the middle of a game! No one was hurt in the incident and the referee even jokingly issued him a yellow card ⚽️
