Whining
I think the most irritating part of being a mathematician is when you are asked to do an arithmetic calculation. If you get it wrong or take too long, everyone starts questioning your career choice.
For God's sake, there are a thousand reasons why any mathematician could quit the profession and being slow at calculations is the least one of them!

i'm physician but in my spare time i teach mathematics (i have no degree, i'm just a passionate hobbyist) to youngs who want to go to college... whenever someone try to ask about fast mental calculations i say: hey, do you know that calculator already exists, don't you ?

Yeah.
Maybe next time I should educate them about what I could do.
Like I don't know about those numbers, but if you want an algorithm to calculate the highest eigen-value of a matrix I could help you.
