If the cloud belongs to someone else, they may have no attachment to the importance , value (including sentimental value) of the data contained therein. To them it is 0s and 1's to you it is say a photo of a lost love one, or this years financial data or a customer database.

But also, Whonix isn't the only option. It's possible to torify VMs without it. Whonix is complicated and heavy, and I think there are better implemented ways of doing the same thing

Basically if you display a QR code after registration with JSON containing the JID and the password Conversations.im users can just scan the code to add the account to their app.
