The EARN IT Act would force online platforms to be overseen by a 19-person commission dominated by federal law enforcement agencies. Protecting user privacy and encryption won’t be on their list of priorities. eff.org/deeplinks/2020/03/earn

@teleclimber centralized moderation is a proven failure and is just getting worse over time. I like how decentralized platforms like Mastodon are in effect like submarines - you can isolate the broken parts (eg Gab) rather than letting every compartments get flooded.

Personal opinion of a Facebooker who personally would use its products only under duress

drm, google

So I bought this book online and clicked on the "Download PDF" button, and what do I get? A proprietary adobe content file! 🤬

How the heck am I going to open this shit with Linux? :blobugh:

It's not even a DRM-encrypted file, it's an XML file that still requires Adobe's DRM software to get to the actual DRM encrypted file! (insert table flip here)

Fitbit devices can track your heartbeat, sleeping patterns & much more. @google now wants to buy @Fitbit. Can you trust them with all this sensitive personal data?

If not, join our fight and ask @vestager to block Google's greedy plans.

lgbt.io blocks over 200 instances.

One of these is social.privacytools.io, an instance whose primary purpose is to provide a platform for discussing how to protect themselves from corporate (think google/facebook) and government (think NSA & Edward Snowden) surveillance.

While blocking some instances can be understandable, this level of blocking is overkill. If you insist on listening to #FediBlock, the least you can do is contact the instance admins and try to work something out beforehand.

Can we for once take the brave step of making specs which are NOT arbitrarily extensible and just deal with their one problem properly and tell anyone with a slightly different problem to get fucked please thanks bye

"How risky is it to attend a Trump campaign rally during a pandemic?"

Well, there's a 100% chance of hearing Trump speak. What more do you need?

It's time to scrap the UK government's disgusting no recourse to public funds condition, whereby migrants are required to pay taxes, but aren't allowed to access the public safety net funded by those taxes: privacyinternational.org/advoc

Since joining #fosstodon I've realised that #blogging isn't dead, and even more so during the #100DaysToOffload series. So I've shut down my medium account, bought a cool domain 😂 and been working on a Jekyll setup that works for me. I have a few interesting technical posts in the pipe but my introductory post is a nostalgic look at my life in games cyb.org.uk/2020/06/09/my-favou . Some initial encouragement and comments may lead to more regular posts from me! 😆

As if @google doesn’t already know too much about us, now it wants our sensitive health data too! We have just launched a petition asking @vestager to block their merger with @Fitbit. Add your voice!

NordLockers 10K bounty has been going on for 80 days, and only 412 people have entered. Yet, on the site it says:

"Remember, hackers all over the world are trying to get to the bounty reward first, too."

No they aren't.

Stop advertising yourself as a secure product and get lost.
