Ok so apparently this happened!

Thanks for over 11,000 views of my article. I honestly never expected it to be this well received.

As I have explained in other posts, I won't really be writing much this year. However I have recently completed an article on the origins of surveillance, so if you would like to see that then let me know.

Once again, thanks for the incredible support!

I sneaked a tiny change into the next #FDroid app release (1.8). App-details will now also display the summary text.

While it's a tiny trivial change, I'm hoping it'll make the app way more usefull. Because often summaries are the only translated text we've got. Also search results sometimes only show the first few words of a summary. Now it's becoming easy to find closure. Last but not least this will make the app and webiste more consistent.

New years resolutions for woke cis het men who are comfortable with their pronouns:

1. Put them in your bio
2. Put them in your email signature at work
3. Wear a pronoun badge

What could be manlier than LITERALLY labelling yourself as a "he" man?

instance meta

Fedi instances are fairly hierarchical by design, so I was wondering if it'd be useful to put together a resource for how to run an instance anarchically.

Stuff like making admin/mod positions rotational and/or recallable, ways to introduce consensus to instance decision making etc.

Philosophy of eating animals (conceptual – nothing graphic)

Maybe I'm strange for thinking this, but it seems odd that some people refuse to eat certain species of animal because of the intelligence level of that species, not because of its ability to feel pain.

Why are an octopus's puzzle-solving skills more valuable than its capability to suffer physical pain (from being killed) or psychological pain (from being kept captive)?

Why is it THIS value that makes some of us draw the line, and not something else?

I'm very curious to know more about these kinds of consumers and what their choices say about them.

"For now, even the biggest tech companies have different interpretations of the law, especially over what it means to stop selling or sharing consumers’ personal details."

We need privacy by design. Can't be an afterthought.

For real like Bandcamp is exactly the kind of service we *hoped* the internet would give us: “hey, people make things, they set their own price inc. free, we provide the storefront, you buy it and the money goes to the creator, you get it in a DRM-free format and can play it however you want, we just make money to keep going & improving and aren’t a VC-funded nightmare company of rampant reckless growth that will do something nightmarish and implode.”

We need more media platforms like that.
