I came to Mastodon because it was a Nazi free alternative to Twitter. I chose my instance because it was tech related, not politics.
It just goes to prove the fact that politics is literally everywhere and you can't hide from the problems facing society.
So if that means fighting fascists and ruining their move to Mastodon, then so be it.

#FLOSS is riddled with the "we must stay neutral" mentality, this creates a problem in this space, it simply isn't safe for minorities to participate in a lot of the conversations.
This means being neutral isn't neutral at all.

I'm interested in #free_software, #privacy and concerned about the danger of #monoculture and #monopoly in technology and elsewhere.
I've been a #Linux user since 1998, and a #Fedora contributor since 2005. My $dayjob is with #Facebook though not on any product or ads teams, and I actually get to work with, and contribute to, #floss projects.

CTA ATTENTION ALL FEDIVERSE ADMINS:
On July 4th Gab is coming on to the Fediverse by switching over to Mastodon on their servers.
This means that you can shut the door on them today by preemptively have them fully suspended from your instances. So your users do not have risk getting harassed by any of their users, and they from the start be blocked off from major portions of the Fediverse.

@jj I don't know if I agree.
I think separating every application in to its own VM is a good way to improve productivity, while also reducing clutter as you have less applications per VM. This may not be minimal (by which I mean you will have to have a quite a few VMs) but I think it could massively reduce distractions. IDK, its an interesting one!
@jj I use FireFox focus for mobile (though it doesn't work too well with work wifi) I don't know about only using uBlock, although I might give it a try. I'm trying to move to linux (Qubes in particular) so...

@jj Good point. What I mean by minimal is that I don't want to have 7 extensions for firefox etc...
Also if you know any open source productivity tools (like Leechblock than that would be great)

Does anyone have any tips or strategies for being minimal and private online?
I was thinking of finding a way of using compartmentalisation along with some open source productivity tools to make a minimalist and private way of using the internet.
