I'm envisioning platform for facilitating quality online debates between people from competing perspectives. The process would start with a series of text-based exchanges. After the debaters have (hopefully) gained a deeper understanding of each other's thinking and got the usual strawmen and sabre-rattling out of the way, a live debate could be scheduled. It could be held using video conferencing or, if possible, in person. It would be livestreamed, as well as publishing recordings.

@strypey if you were to make it, you would need to have great moderation to prevent trolls. It would also be neat if it were made retro style, or just clean and simple. But I'm really liking ths sound of this!

@freddy Good point. One way to deal with this is for all the debates to be by invite of the group running the site, rather than being an open platform. Although it would be open in the sense that anyone could use the software to run their own instance. But even on an open use platform, since it's 1=1 debates, and either party can simply abandon the debate at any time if they don't think the other person is arguing in good faith, it wouldn't be as attractive to trolls as group conversations are.

@strypey that would be really interesting. I could see this being used in a similar way to reddit AMAs. If we could have online debates between teams or groups of people that would be awesome !
