In the middle of the bell curve, it’s basically a federated Twitter (in which public commentary and debate is expected) or like Facebook, in which an echo chamber is desired and usually enforced by individual users by blocking those who disagree (or through Facebook’s automatic algorithmic hiding). At the extremes, some people treat it like 8chan. I block the extremes.
