Is there a legally-binding license that preserves copyright, but like, out to a normal year instead of five billion years into the future

@mal pretty sure they’re the ones that copyright everything five billion years into the future

@amydentata @mal Elon musk is *ok* not *amazing* to be clear but this is not bad.

@amydentata @mal actually just republishing under CC-BY or the most permissive copyright possible after one year might also work? It’s definitely interesting that that’s not really an option.

@dan @mal I like the idea of it being automatic though, because it can do things like enable legal reverse-engineering even if the project is lost

@amydentata @mal yeah, true. I was mainly suggesting that b/c I feel like what you’re looking for isn’t a thing yet. I also don’t known *anything* about copyright law so hopefully you can make it be a thing?

@dan @mal I would like *someone* to make it a thing. I certainty don’t have the resources to do it myself rn
