I'm moving my personal git repos to gitea at git.privacytools.io/ because GitHub is blocking Iranian devs.

After reading a post on dev.to I decided to use open source alternatives for my personal repos.

> A silo, or web content hosting silo, is a centralized web site (like most social media) typically owned by a for-profit corporation that stakes some claim to content contributed to it and restricts access in some way (has walls).

Spoon boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. Thatโ€™s impossible. Insteadโ€ฆ only try to realize the truth.

Neo: What truth?

Spoon boy: There is no spoonโ€ฆ

Neo: There is no spoon?

Spoon boy: Then youโ€™ll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

Mass surveillance around the world is growing. We have to fight for our right to privacy and freedom of speech! Here we explain how any backdoor would lessen security for all of us: tutanota.com/blog/posts/why-a-

If you put your company's secret data in the cloud, YOU ALREADY LOST CONTROL OF YOUR DATA

Cos it's in the Cloud.

That's what the Cloud is.

It's giving someone else control of your secret data.

That someone being someone who wants to rule the world.

You can kid yourself for a very long time that nobody who runs the Cloud is going to look at your secret data.

But it's a cutthroat business world, data is money, and you will never know if they did look.

They probably aren't looking! You hope.

Re. the recent block of Iranian and Ukrainian Github users - while platforms like Github are very useful, let us not put all of our eggs into one basket (especially when they are proprietary). Itโ€™s made me realise that I personally rely too much on these monolithic services, and am looking to use more decentralised (or better yet offline + local) systems ^^

School grades are useless arbitrary numbers.
Because they represent a single, subjective point of view, strongly biased by the teacher's personal preference towards specific solution to an exercise.
To make them relevant, a student would need to be evaluated by a statistically significant number of teachers, say 10 at least. But that's not practical.
The most intelligent people have mediocre grades in average. But again, so do the rest of the people. Hence my point.

Hey-o! Just want to say if you're enjoying our Mastodon server, our Matrix chat, or anything else we're doing @ privacytools.io, I would really appreciate it if you'd consider donating any amount towards our costs ๐Ÿ˜„

We're currently spending around $60/month on servers and other infrastructure, and we'd like to be able to pay our team more in the future! We prefer liberapay.com/privacytools.io/ but there are many other contribution methods at privacytools.io/donate/ ๐Ÿ˜… Thanks everyone!!
