@cpt @Tutanota Being open source allows independant security researchers to identify backdoors and flaws quite quickly. Any backdoor would have already made the news. Tutanota also has a Warrant Canary (https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2014/04/warrant-canary-faq) and publishes a Transparency Report (https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/transparency-report). Tutanota was also subject to an extensive penetration test in 2013 (https://tutanota.com/faq#certification). If there were any backdoors, they would have been uncovered during the test.
