@Sherri_Ingrey : Some internet users cannot open the link you shared.
Why not suggest alternative link next time? So other mastodon readers can access it without problems

Alternative:
web.archive.org/web/https://th

Cloudflare domain: threadreaderapp.com
Why: codeberg.org/themusicgod1/clou

@cloudflarelink why are you commenting on my link when I do not follow you or know you? @alex @mk could you explain what this thing is?

@Sherri_Ingrey Looks like @cloudflarelink is actually a bot but I don't fully understand its purpose or what it's replying to

@Sherri_Ingrey Up to you. If it gets annoying I might suspend it on the Spinster level. It doesn't like that the hosting provider of Thread Reader website you linked uses Cloudflare. But that's not your problem.

@alex @Sherri_Ingrey
It shouldn't be annoying. You are probably whitelisted. I think that you get whitelisted when you reply for the reason, that the organization didn't want to make people angry.

The bot tries to warn users about the privacy danger of Cloudflare. It does check domains, not specific pages, so that domain contains Cloudflare. It is possible that the page does not.

I know the organization. The purpose of the bot is just the let the people know that Cloudflare is a privacy nightmare. Feel free to block it, but I don't think that it is needed, you are probably already whitelisted, since you replied to it.
@alex @Sherri_Ingrey
I checked the link. The bot is correct. I can't open it, since I block requests from Cloudflare. You don't have to block it. It is a personal choice. It is also not the most convenient thing to do for everyone.

I personally think that everyone deserves privacy and that is why I block it. I fight (not literally) for privacy. I try to accept everyone. I believe that everyone has their own ideas and reasons for why they do something.

@rmw @Sherri_Ingrey We're using Cloudflare on our server too. I hadn't heard the criticism of it before. We're also under attack constantly, so I'm not sure what else a small controversial server with few resources can do.

@alex @Sherri_Ingrey
I also wrote something about it: https://robinwils.gitlab.io/articles/say-no-to-cloudflare.html

The last link (Even more reasons) currently doesn't work, since there were problems with the git repository. This fork should work for now: https://codeberg.org/themusicgod1/cloudflare-tor/src/branch/master/article.txt

I however haven't looked into what the best alternatives are. I know that there are alternatives though. I think that you can ask for alternatives by creating an issue on that repository. I could do it for you if you wish so. I have a account on that site.

I actually should look into alternatives as well. I currently just use the Google servers of Gitlab. I know that Google is also not known for privacy, but I currently don't want to pay for hosting. Privacy is hard to get nowadays. It is kind of sad.

Anyways, other instances also use Cloudflare. It is not my decision to make and it is not an easy one either.

@rmw @alex I don't use Chrome any more at all, I am on Firefox because my techie son told me Chrome is nothing but info gathering. The only things I miss are 1. Chromecast - nothing like it on FF apps and 2. That little pulldown on pictures "search Google for this image"
