@fructose_dealer@quey.org I guess the notion that "(human) life is sacred" underlies almost every culture on Earth as a self-evident truth, and I guess when held up against the individual's freedom to choose, the former wins out?
Besides, societies usually aren't interested in their members leaving it, and killing oneself is a very permanent way to leave society, so that's another angle motivating it to keep its constituents alive and present.
