Desired #mastodon feature:

The ability to mute someone for a given period of time so I can just pretend they don't exist a while.

It's been almost six months since I last got my hair cut. I couldn't stand it any longer and cut it myself, blind, with a pair of scissors. The result is... not horrible. It is well that I wear a hat outside.

I hope the local birds appreciate the nest-building material.

So I use Reddit quite a bit because I really enjoy the format. I like how many perspectives you get and often learn and expand my ideas from the comments.
I’ve managed to avoid the toxicity that Reddit is known for, but I’d still like to migrate away for a myriad of reasons.

The most interesting alternatives look like Lemmy, github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy, or Aether, getaether.net/

Anyone familiar with them or others?

Brilliant project that tidies up public domain ebooks.

Gutenberg and Internet Archive are wonderful resources, but the texts are poorly formatted for actual use, especially on ereaders.

This is a volunteer driven initiative to bring these texts up to date with modern standards and make them look as good as possible on the page.

Many of you have asked, and we explain. Tor Browser ships with a defense called Letterboxing that prevent fingerprinting your screen dimensions. It adds margins to the window and it stops websites from identifying your exact screen size. Browse safely!

#Firejail is a namespace sandboxer.

Firejail is a program that confines processes into lightweight #Linux namespace sandboxes. Namespaces in Linux can be used to limit what resources (filesystems, networks, USB, etc.) a process has access to. Firejail supports many programs by default, and can be configured to support others or to use special options with configuration files.

A friend phrased this very well a little bit ago: The "they're all the same" rhetoric is actually right-wing agitprop. Don't believe it.

Republicans *want* you not to vote at all, for THE SAME REASON they want to suppress the vote: It's the only way they win.

PROVE THEM WRONG.

If you think you're going to sit home and sulk in November rather than vote for the party that is at least closer to your own interests, then you're giving Republicans your power.

THEY WANT YOU TO STAY HOME. They got burned by vote splitting in 1992, then weaponized it in 2000.

Quote of note:

"Don’t just blame President Trump. Blame me — and all the other Republicans who aided and abetted and, yes, benefited from protecting a political party that has become dangerous to America. Some of us knew better."

"But we built this moment. And then we looked the other way."

"Many of us heard a warning sound we chose to ignore, like that rattle in your car you hear but figure will go away. Now we’re broken down, with plenty of time to think about what should have been done."

Via Republicans like me built this moment. Then we looked the other way.

So, Bernie supporters. I know you're scared right now, and I know you feel like you're being let down by the Democratic Party, by the media, by everyone around you.

But your fight does matter, and it will result in change. I know that because I've lived this story. (thread) 1/

Sanders is not Trump. Only the former has populist rhetoric backed by tangible, if lofty, proposals.

Biden is not Trump. He is not as left as Sanders, but he is far from a Republican.

Pick one in the primary, and then vote him into office in November. #VoteBlueNoMatterWho2020

Biden Bad!
Bernie Bad!

Somebody has got to be the nominee. Rah rah for whomever you want. BUT, when its over ITS FUCKING OVER. I don't want to hear "Oh, the DNC stole.." horseshit.

You fucking vote Democrat when the election comes. I don't care if its a GOD DAMN rock pained blue, along as it's got a (D) after its name.

Trump must go. Its more important than Bernie vs Biden. its more important than your petty conspiracy theories.

I cannot handle 4 more years of Trump. I can't breathe.

(thread) Everyone should learn the Four Rules of gun safety

Guns are a thing that exist in the world, doubly so in the US. Regardless of your political opinion about them, it's a good idea to know how to interact with guns safely should the need arise. Even if you never want to be near 'em, this knowledge can only help you.

There's four universal rules that can prevent the vast majority of unintentional gun injuries and deaths. They're not complicated. The exact phrasing varies a bit but the message is always the same.
