My favorite bit of tech trivia may be that the Palm IIIe included the "Uncle Fucka" tune from the South Park movie as a system sound. You could have it play that when you got an email, for example.

Desired #mastodon feature:

The ability to mute someone for a given period of time so I can just pretend they don't exist a while.

It's been almost six months since I last got my hair cut. I couldn't stand it any longer and cut it myself, blind, with a pair of scissors. The result is... not horrible. It is well that I wear a hat outside.

I hope the local birds appreciate the nest-building material.

#Iosevka is a configurable #font.

Iosevka is a #monospace font that supports ligatures as well configurable variant glyphs and line thickness. Iosevka's ligatures are optimized for programming, and provide a cleaner look for multi character symbols like -> and ==. Iosevka features alternate glyphs for most letters, and can be built to include or exclude these glyphs as well as ligatures.

So I use Reddit quite a bit because I really enjoy the format. I like how many perspectives you get and often learn and expand my ideas from the comments.
Iโ€™ve managed to avoid the toxicity that Reddit is known for, but Iโ€™d still like to migrate away for a myriad of reasons.

The most interesting alternatives look like Lemmy, github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy, or Aether, getaether.net/

Anyone familiar with them or others?

@sheogorath go with a used phone? The OnePlus 6, for example, has a headphone jack and Lineage. Don't know about repairability.

@sheogorath see what GrapheneOS runs on these days; I think on most of the Pixel line. I don't know what you mean by full feature but Signal does run on it.

Brilliant project that tidies up public domain ebooks.

Gutenberg and Internet Archive are wonderful resources, but the texts are poorly formatted for actual use, especially on ereaders.

This is a volunteer driven initiative to bring these texts up to date with modern standards and make them look as good as possible on the page.

@tindall retropie/lakka emulation box, a dedicated ssh jump host for remotely accessing your lan.

@df5t0rw There's a KDE app called Banji but it's not in any Debian. The canonical Linux VOIP client may be Jitsi, also not in Debian but the dev makes a deb available for download.

Many of you have asked, and we explain. Tor Browser ships with a defense called Letterboxing that prevent fingerprinting your screen dimensions. It adds margins to the window and it stops websites from identifying your exact screen size. Browse safely!

#Firejail is a namespace sandboxer.

Firejail is a program that confines processes into lightweight #Linux namespace sandboxes. Namespaces in Linux can be used to limit what resources (filesystems, networks, USB, etc.) a process has access to. Firejail supports many programs by default, and can be configured to support others or to use special options with configuration files.

@woozle some old BIOSes had a setting for USB peripheral emulation or summat. Basically let older/simpler OSes see USB input peripherals as something they could grok. Maybe yours has this feature.

@joeyh "amausing" is certainly apropos. Like the graphic novel "Maus" meets tech bros.
