@freakazoid you know maybe the idea that you should automatically execute whatever program your browser picks up from the internet is a bad idea

@nimblejack
Google, Facebook and others are not really opt-out. There is a big social pressure to use their services as well as loss of opportunity if you don't. Ads are basically means of mass manipulation. It should not be the case that you are forced to not use this services to avoid being manipulated (not to mention privacy aspects). We should not be fine with this tradeoff.

"Ethical advertising" is an oxymoron

Google is ruining the internet

People expect that services on the internet should be "free" like Google's but the only way to meet this expectation for most companies is to participate in surveillance capitalism with Google.

Genie: You have ONE WISH.

Me: Alright, I have one, but it's very detailed.
Genie: As long as it is only one wish, you're allowed to spend as much time as you want detailing it.

Me: Alright, here we go. *Grabs notebook and takes a deep breath* The key words MUST, MUST NOT, REQUIRED, SHALL, SHALL NOT, SHOULD, SHOULD NOT, RECOMMENDED, MAY, and OPTIONAL are to be interpreted as described in [RFC2119].

Genie: Wait, is that...?

Me: *Flips notebook* Chapter 1. Preamble.

life hack:

you can just say "websearch" instead of "google"

Losing my mind reading an article about how AI can "solve" climate change. As if ExxonMobil execs are sitting around going "gosh we WISH we could do something about climate change but we just haven't found the right tech yet."

@greyor
Yeah, Frost is nice. I also use DNS66. Problem is that after few weeks of using Frost FB started to lock my account. Initially I could unlock via Frost giving my birthday date but next time they asked for photo ID or to ID people on some photos which I would not do without their explicit consent. I could still verify with birthday through browser. This actually pushed me to delete FB as I did not want to be left with locked account. So I guess good outcome after all 😁

I wrote a short story about love and loss and networks: Rogue Processes dustycloud.org/misc/rogue-proc
