FOSS, negative and critical, depressing

You know what? Nobody fucking cares about us selfhosting things. People don't give a fuck about things we host on our servers or things we write on our servers. They won't use your solutions unless something is completely broken so it does not work at all.

It is impossible to become fully independent from society by hosting things on your own servers. Because there are people who develop processors, people who develop software we use to communicate via web.

I think everyone of us knows that. But secretly it seems we don't want to admit that. FOSS won, but it will not win ever by itself. Only by companies like Microsoft. Or AT&T. Or any else.

@alex
I like to think that one day the big tech will collapse under it's own weight and when that happens we will be ready to host the new future.

@brombek @alex What do you mean "one day"?

When it comes to The Web, it's happening before our very eyes! Such an uphill battle to get people to accept that though...

@brombek @alex These webbies and their righteousness can be infuriating!

Beyond their unwillingness to accept the status quo isn't sustainable & putting everything on the web doesn't necessarily improve things...

Just today in my relation to the OGC we're dealing with the naive geoJSON standard they push. (We've also got an alternative that is actually simpler, rather than dismissive of the complexities!)
