Do you remember when the web was full of promise? Can we reclaim that promise?

The promise is still there but www (HTTP/HTML...) is a lost cause. We can still create new open protocols that won't get turned against their "users".

With all the "standards" that browsers need to support makes it impractical to develop new browsers, so yeah. Also web tends to promote centralisation due to how URL work and how linking and HTML lacks semantic information.
This are by design, so a new standard that could help avoid this issues would be good.
That said web is here to stay and all the data there so any work to improve things is important.

I've got https://webring.xxiivv.com/ on my reading list, and am actively working on clientside tools to help people handle more variety than they currently do.
@brombek @ajroach42 I wouldn't be so quick to jump to something new, there's still a lot of greatness on the less well-trodden Web.
We just need decent hueristics (unlike those provided by Google, Facebook, et al) to unbury this stuff from beneath the bigotry, & deprecate most of the Web standards. I'm doing what I can that way.
