Something that might be worth imagining:

What if your town's connection to the outside Internet was a harddrive + WiFi hotspot on a bus that drives through periodically? Or something to that effect?

You'd get superb bandwidth but terrible latency, so how would our apps have to change?

For example eMail wouldn't have to change much, even if it's protocols did.
