As part of our plan to overhaul our VPN section at privacytools.io, we can now proudly present our now VPN layout: https://www.privacytools.io/providers/vpn/
Note that we can still add a few refinements later on. Also at the end of 2019 we will re investigate all vpns listed, and lock the amount of providers we recommend to 3.

Tails, a live operating system relying on Tor that helps you to use the internet anonymously and circumvent censorship almost anywhere you go and on any computer, turns 10 today.

After decades of suffering through ipchains/iptables syntax, and seeing how easy fw and ufw made common firewall workflows, it's disappointing that the best Debian's iptables replacement can do is:
nft add rule inet filter input tcp dport 22 accept
When syntax for common workflows is complicated, you increase the chance the admin will make a mistake that exposes them to attackers. See S3 bucket permissions for more examples of this. #infosec #devops

Currently testing out a new pixel3a with graphene OS, a hardened android spin which aims to provide all android base security features, and apply extra hardening on top, like a hardened memory allocator and things like remote attestation. The is seems really functional and stable overall, will check back later.

Great Blog Series by @blacklight447. Must read for anyone has little or no idea about how tor works and pros and cons of VPNs.
https://write.privacytools.io/my-thoughts-on-security/slicing-onions-part-1-myth-busting-tor
Although I personally prefer @protonvpn when speed is my major concern. And @torproject (with Bridges) when anonymity is my concern. I have to rely on it regularly because my government π§π© reguarly censor foreign media & persecute local journalists. These solutions give me freedom.
