Hello internet!
@kyle they are pointless anyway, AV software is an outdated way of protection that is not worth the cons it has.
@micahflee @squire@mstdn.io what i often opt for is just using archive.org as a proxy to view it

@dump_stack @danarel server being open source only matters if you care about federation. Else it doesn't matter because you cannot know the code they are tunning is the same as the code that is published.
@dump_stack @danarel signal using phone number is because its not trying to be anonymous, but private.
@dump_stack @danarel keybase is foss, and the fact that wite is now us based is not the reason we removed it.
@bendineliot @privacyint does this job also do remote offerings?
@dump_stack but it is, just because i would be the one who flips the switch does make it any less of a community decision, if i went ahead and do something different then what the community wants, then people will give backlash and call us out on it, thats the whole reason why our appraoch works.
@dump_stack ofcourse there is a last word, someone needs to flip the switch, but according to your criteria. It would be impossible to have a community based decision, without making it really easy to abuse.
@dump_stack the clients which handle the encryption are open source. No need to trust the server. And they did move their ownership. And the didnt even bother to notify people. You can talk to @danarel who lead that investigation for the details.
@dump_stack I do hope you know keybase is open source. Furthermore we removed wire because of their new ownership and business decisons. Sure they may still we good now, but if we have reason to believe that this might change in the near future, then we don't recommend the tool.
Also, if you know how ptio operates, then you know that we are a community project, and community decides what gets listed. Accusing us therefore that we just list our own favorites, is ridiculous.
