Invidious, critique

Currently I'm reconsidering the services I host. I'm running a private invidious instance for a few months now and I don't think it really pays off. The gains are small. The videos are still coming from Google video, the software itself hasn't seen a new stable release since I installed and recommends to just use their master branch and the integration with apps like newpipe breaks. All that for hmm nicer RSS feed integration and a minimal amount more privacy.

@sheogorath you can consider using our peertube instance :p

Tube.privacytools.io

@blacklight447 while that's a very generous offer, I don't think it hits the problem :D

Most stuff I watch is tied into the YouTube community and I don't think they will move anywhere else soon.

@sheogorath fair enough, one youtuber, techlore, hosts his stuff at our instance though, so yay us?

Anyway, to my knowledge, invidious was always meant as a band aid. A way of watching content without directly hitting google ( if you enable proxying) for end users. Where stuff like peertube and lbry aim to replace youtube.

@blacklight447 @sheogorath what's a good alternative to invidio.us?
