Branded phrases like this are deeply embedded in our vernacular these days, so don't fret!

Slow down and make a conscious effort to say "Search on the Internet" instead.

We know someone that made a "Google swear jar" and each time they used the G-word in conversation, a dollar went in the jar.

Now THAT is commitment!

Teaching is activism.

We need spaces where we can express ourselves less than perfect, in order to find the right words, and learn how to express ourselves better.

Golly it feels like #MastoAdmin must be the toughest job at the moment. This transition time when manual blacklisting is no longer enough to keep communities safe, and nobody knows what’s the right approach (or if there even is one) to efficiently prevent spam/malicious use on both instance & user level, without completely sealing ranks and never letting new people in. So much respect to admins and people working on technological ways to solve these social problems.

If 20% of a group are harassers (evenly across genders), & the group has more men than women… then each woman gets 16x more bad experiences than each man.

The Petrie Multiplier: in a group where x% are bullies/harassers, the minority will feel it (x/100)^2 more.

This blog post has stuck with me through the years. I like the maths in it, & I like the conclusion that attacking sexism/racism etc doesn't have to be an attack on the majority.

That's not just wrong, except if you call bots users, but supports facists as it serves them visability.
Visability that they gained through exploiding.

I changed my mind: I want to try out going invite-only and see how it works out for us. We're getting a lot of registrations but it seems like most accounts aren't even used. I strongly believe in quality over quantity and I hope adding some limits will help keep our conversations great!
