my hot take on him resigning from the fsf is that the free software movement has never been more relevant and it's for exactly that reason that it's never been more important that others ought to be leading it

Linux is more than Linus.

GNU and the FSF are more than RMS.

How about we see what kind of movement we can build if we centre the kind of people that the assholes and creeps of F/LOSS drove away?

The lesson I want people to take from RMS' jump-before-pushed resignation:

"Your heroes and role models will be held accountable for being a jerk. If you emulate their behavior, you will also be held accountable."

The lesson the problem people will take: "SJW waaaaah!"

I think it's important that we repeat the better lesson.

Sexual harassment was wrong in the 50s. It was wrong in the 80s. It is wrong today.

There is no statute of limitations on social interactions.

The Internet is helping people come together to claim their power and hold those *in* power accountable.

I hope that this is only the beginning.

And I hope that racism gets the same treatment.

One day, the inventor of USB will die.

They will try to lower his casket into the grave.

It won't fit.

They'll have to raise it out, turn it around, and lower it in the opposite way.

Then it will go in.
