Not open source and the site (especially the intro video) looks like an early 2000s parody of a dystopian hacker-scape... but I thought others here might be interested in seeing this: u.is <<<PLEASE NOTE: I am not associated with this project and have not tried it. Based on the software description it looks like they’ll use your machine for crypto mining unless you disable it.

I highly recommend this short story (When Alone Was Forgotten by Jeffrey Harrell) to anyone interested in privacy and speculative fiction: web.archive.org/web/2007082413 It’s also sold as part of a short story collection titled ā€œThe Glacier With Her Name Carved In Itā€.

Anyone remember WASTE? Decentralized, encrypted chat and file sharing before it was cool. Would love to see it resurrected in a more modern form. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/WASTE

As required by section 13402(e)(4) of the HITECH Act, the Secretary must post a list of breaches of unsecured protected health information affecting 500 or more individuals. The following breaches have been reported to the Secretary: ocrportal.hhs.gov/ocr/breach/b

@resist1984 It actually isn't difficult to do if you're running Linux: bin.privacytools.io/?07f96e5ca (I'd suggest testing in a VM before running this on your main device.)

Really want to get a pair of reflectacles.com/

I’d also like to see more wearable privacy gear available on the market.

@heroicstoic Haven’t yet, no. I don’t plan on using their service. I was just cleaning up my accounts. Bought something from them for a friend years ago.

has so many third party tracker scripts tied into their site’s account page, that I can’t even change my account info with blockers enabled.

@nikolal Yeah, hunting for something on iOS. Thanks though!

Anyone have any FOSS email client recommendations for iOS? Be nice if it also supported PGP within the client itself, but that isn’t a deal breaker.

With these new CapitalOne commercials, it feels like they had an emergency meeting right after the breach:

Exec1: ā€œWe’ve just had a data breach involving over 100 million people’s personal information. How can we distract everyone so they’ll forget by the next news cycle?ā€

Exec2: ā€œI hear that Taylor Swift is really popular right now.ā€

Exec1: ā€œPerfect!ā€

(The sad part is, it’ll totally work.)

@digicana That’s fair, but email likely isn’t going anywhere, at least not for a good while. Looking for the best of the bad options is still worth doing in my opinion. :)

Secure email fight.

Minimum requirements: e2ee, custom domains, multiple addresses/aliases. Feel free to comment on why you made your choice.

@darylsun Spam account. I just block them when I see them.

Since the Equifax breach (and now the Capital One breach), lots of people learned how to freeze their report with the credit bureaus (there are 6 of them by the way, not 3). You might also want to opt-out of ā€œfirmā€ (pre-approved) credit offers. Not only will this reduce your chances of having your identity stolen, it will also reduce the amount of junk mail you receive. Official opt-out site: optoutprescreen.com/

Tech Support: A Limerick

You have a few problems computing,
And call them for help troubleshooting.
"I'm sorry" they say,
As you start to pray,
"But have you attempted rebooting?"

@nikolal Oh, absolutely. There are safer solutions. And that’s why it has a warning on it that specifically says: ā€œYou could easily break your firewall setup if you use this wrong.ā€ and ā€œI only recommend using this if you know what you’re doing.ā€ But I wasn’t suggesting this was the safest solution, only that it’s *a* solution. ;)

Want to block all the IPs owned by Google, Facebook, or some other company? Running Linux? Here’s a 1-liner to do just that: bin.privacytools.io/?07f96e5ca

@Wetrix Is your real name on POF? If so, it’s incredibly easy to get your phone number, especially if your name is unique in any way. If not that, you could just be a random number. Millions of people are on POF. These scams are all a numbers game. If they random text enough numbers, eventually they’ll get someone who answers and is on POF.

@greyor ā€œFreeā€ is nice, but there’s almost always a cost. I’m happy to pay for services that don’t invade my privacy or bombard me with ads. :)
