Yeah, I'd be extremely skeptic about that.

Every virus mutates and SARS-CoV2 has only aquired about 30 base changes since its first sequence was published. That is in fact really low for a virus and it is yet to be seen if there are any functional changes.

So either the article is bad, or the study.
