Part of my motivation is that I'd like to have control over my own federation policy so that I can use the federated timeline without having to scroll past white supremacist conspiracy theories, so good moderator controls are an important feature.
I'm thinking about setting up my own activityPub server for personal use and looking at misskey (https://github.com/syuilo/misskey) because I'm most comfortable with javascript.
The contributor list is full of anime girls and I'm vaguely aware that there's some correlation between that and white supremacy... They have a code of conduct, but the readme itself has pics of busty anime girls.
So, do any of my followers have experience with the community/codebase? Would you recommend it?
Hi Fediverse ๐
no artwork, instead let's #saveOTF today ๐

Two days ago, US gov. made worrying changes to the OTF. So we signed this plea and hope you join in:
People are using CryptPad to organize for a better future and it's essential that it works reliably. We spent the last few weeks preparing v3.19.0 (Thylacine) with many bug fixes and usability improvements. The full release notes are on GitHub: https://github.com/xwiki-labs/cryptpad/releases/tag/3.19.0 #privacy
...and before it happens: don't @ me with your brilliant and original take on how police violence is "only an American problem". I assure you it is not.
If you're on the fediverse because you can't stand the injustices that inevitably spring from monopolies but you feel like the fight against police brutality isn't your problem then I suggest you take some time to consider why.
My twitter feed is 99% about the ongoing protests against police brutality, so it's really weird to look at the fediverse and see it look basically the same as it always does.
I get that a lot of people here left birdsite because of trauma or because doomscrolling is pretty depressing, but it's pretty freaky to know that while some folks are literally getting killed in the streets another community is talking about the same old tech problems.

Registration is free and does not require any personal information. You can then submit encrypted support tickets that only we (the development team) can read. We're a small team with limited resources, so if your group can appoint one person to contact us and disseminate our responses that will allow us to serve more users.
For your sake and our own, please be cautious what information you share with us and consider plausible deniability. The less we know the better.

We develop CryptPad under an open-source license because we believe cryptography is a vital tool in addressing disparities in power. In case it wasn't already abundantly clear: we're on the side of the black, queer, trans, and other disproportionately policed and surveilled people that have faced prejudice for far too long.
If you're using CryptPad to organize and have any questions about how to use it as safely as possible please do contact us.

This account has been quiet for the last while because other voices are far more deserving of your attention.
It came to our attention that we were featured in this article (https://rhizome.org/editorial/2020/jun/03/digital-resources-for-a-movement-against-police-violence/) which recommends digital resources for the movement against police violence.

Perhaps the most disappointing thing about #surveillance #capitalism is that even though companies know so much about me they still stand by and let me accidentally order skim milk instead of homogenized milk.
